Income Marketplace – Platform Introduction
Income Marketplace is an Estonian P2P investment marketplace offering loans from multiple loan originators from different countries (currently offering Finnish, Indonesian and Brazilian lenders). Income Marketplace’s main differentiation from other competitors in the market is to reduce the incentive and opportunity for originators to violate their legal obligations towards P2P investors. Thus, the Income Marketplace team aimed to structure investments in a more professional manner to increase their safety.
The way it works in reality is that Income Marketplace has contracted the loan portfolios in a manner that allows them to quickly take over servicing the loans and redirect the funds paid by the borrowers from the loan originator if the borrower defaults. In order to do this successfully, a back-up servicer must be in place and it must receive a continuous flow of data on each borrower.
As a second safety pillar, Income Marketplace says it has improved the position of investors compared to the usual buyback guarantees seen on other sites. The “Cashflow Buffer” and “Junior Share” are used to do this. In simple terms, lenders have a “skin in the game” (the % of each loan that the lender itself must hold) calculated using Income Marketplace’s methodology. It takes into account the various risks of a particular loan originator.
The important fact is that this “skin in the game” share of the loan originator is subordinated to the money owed to P2P investors, and not on a par. This increases the investors’ chances of repaying their funds if there is any problem, such as a lender default.

The platform is equipped with auto-invest, the secondary market is however absent and the liquidity of the investment is thus limited. It is possible to invest from EUR 10 without the possibility of investing in other currencies. The offered interest rate is from 7% to 12% p.a. All loans are equipped with a buyback guarantee in case of more than 60 days of default.
